Show notes
Off The Shelf takes to the stage 🤩 in a podcast first, we switched the studio for a live audience as the charismatic David Bentley guest stars alongside hosts Michael Dawson and Ben Haines 🎭
With that slicked back barnet, wand of a right foot and the gift of the gab, this is a laugh-a-minute episode as our former number 5️⃣ charts his upbringing, how he idolised Paul Gascoigne in a Spurs shirt and the belting anecdotes from his playing days - such as the hat-trick against Manchester United and the hilarious prank call around his first England senior call-up 😂
Fulfilling a boyhood dream to emulate Gazza when he signed for us in 2008, 'Bents' and former team-mate 'Diva Daws' 💁♂️ share the tales, nicknames and banter during their time together in the dressing room at White Hart Lane, including the story behind one of our most iconic north London derby goals in the 4-4 with Arsenal and the ice bucket drenching 🧊 and night out that followed Champions League qualification under Harry Redknapp 🍾
Retiring at 28 due to a knee injury following a loan moves in England and Russia with FC Rostov, Bents opens up about his decision to retire at such a young age, a focus on family life and now loving football all over again through his son's passion.
Also, you need to stick around for the quick-fire questions at the end... 🤣
